Drip edge
Drip edge protects deck edges and helps direct runoff away from fascia and into gutters. Fastening, overlap, and its sequence with underlayment must follow the roof assembly requirements.
Why caulk is not the whole repair
Roof sealant is useful at certain exposed fasteners and transitions specified by a manufacturer. It should not be the primary drainage system for a wall, chimney, valley, or pipe flange. Surface caulk often cracks as materials expand and contract, and a thick patch can trap water or hide the route of a leak.

- Test selectively. Controlled water testing may help, but it should be performed methodically to avoid creating additional damage.
If water is already entering, use a container and protect belongings, but do not enter the attic during a storm or climb onto a wet roof. Request roof leak repair as soon as practical.
Repair vs. replacement
A localized pipe boot or isolated step-flashing issue may be repairable when adjacent shingles remain flexible and serviceable.
